Understanding Justice in South & West Devon

The Magistrates in the Community (MIC)

Initiative is a national programme run by the Magistrates’ Association. It aims to bridge the gap between the public and the justice system by having serving magistrates deliver interactive presentations in schools and communities.

The programme seeks to educate young people about the role of magistrates and the criminal justice system, encourage better decision-making through sessions on “Choices and Consequences”, and reduce offending by highlighting the impact of actions such as cyberbullying, knife crime, and drug driving.

It also aims to build public confidence in the justice system, support schools with PSHE and Citizenship education, and inspire the next generation to consider becoming magistrates.
